Timing Matters: When to Hit Send for Maximum Revenue

Hey, itā€™s Raymond again.

If thereā€™s one question I hear all the time, itā€™s this:

"Whatā€™s the best day to send emails for the highest sales?"

And my answer? It depends.

I know, I knowā€”thatā€™s not the quick fix you were hoping for. 

But hereā€™s the thing: timing your emails isnā€™t about following a generic ā€˜best practiceā€™ you found online. 

Itā€™s about understanding your audience, your products, and the buying habits that drive conversions.

After analyzing countless campaigns, running A/B tests, and digging into real sales data, Iā€™ve found that the right send day varies by brand, industry, and customer behavior.

Letā€™s break it down.

The ā€œBest Dayā€ Myth: What the Data Actually Says

If you Google it, most sources will tell you that Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the best days to send emails.

And generally, thatā€™s true.

šŸ“Œ Tuesday: Often has the highest open rates because people are back into ā€œwork modeā€ after Monday chaos.


šŸ“Œ Wednesday & Thursday: Great for engagementā€”people are still productive but more open to shopping.


šŸ“Œ Friday: Hit or missā€”some brands see success with weekend promos, while others get buried in inboxes.

But hereā€™s what those studies donā€™t tell you: what works for one brand might not work for you.

If you search online, youā€™ll find that industry experts have different opinions on the topicā€¦

HubSpot: B2B vs. B2C audiences behave differently. 

Their study found that Tuesdays from 9:01 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST are the best times to send emails, with B2B audiences engaging even more within that timeframe. 

Monday mornings (6:01 a.m. to 9 a.m.) are also strong, while late evenings are the worst.

MailerLite: Thursday and Friday are the most popular days for email marketers, but open rates are consistent across the week. 

Interestingly, weekends see higher open rates, but conversions are usually lower compared to weekdays.

From what Iā€™ve seen working with e-commerce brands, the best send days depend on your audience, your products, and your goals. 

Thereā€™s no one-size-fits-all answer.

Sure, benchmarks can give you a starting point, but the real key is understanding your audience or customers. 

Iā€™ve tested countless send days, and what works for one brand doesnā€™t always work for another. 

The best approach? 

Look at your data, experiment with different days, and track actual salesā€”not just open rates. 

At the end of the day, the best send day is the one that gets your customers to buy.

How to Find the Best Send Days for YOUR Business

Instead of guessing, hereā€™s how I pinpoint the best days to send emails for my clients:

Check Your Sales Data:

1. Look at your past sales trends

Before looking at email metrics, I start by analyzing when customers actually make purchases. 

Sales trends can reveal when people are most engaged and ready to buy. 

If a brand consistently sees more orders on specific days, thatā€™s a strong indicator of when to send emails.

2. Analyze Your Email Metrics

Looking at past campaign performance is crucial. 

I review:

  • Open rates ā€“ Which days get the highest engagement?

  • Click-through rates ā€“ When are people more likely to take action?

  • Conversions ā€“ Which days drive the most sales?

Open rates can sometimes be misleadingā€”just because an email gets opened doesnā€™t mean itā€™s leading to sales. 

Thatā€™s why I always cross-check email engagement with actual revenue impact.

3. Test & Optimize

Even with good data, I never assumeā€”itā€™s all about testing. 

Hereā€™s what I do:

  1. A/B test different send days over a few weeks.

  2. Try sending emails at different times (morning vs. evening).

  3. Compare sales resultsā€”not just open ratesā€”to see what drives revenue.

If youā€™re not sure where to start, hereā€™s my simple testing framework:

šŸ“… Week 1 & 2: Send emails on Tuesday and Thursday.
šŸ“… Week 3 & 4: Try Monday and Wednesday (close second).
šŸ“… Week 5 & 6: Friday and Sunday
